About Northwest News

Northwest News is a popular monthly literacy newspaper. It has been successfully connecting beginning readers of English to the adult content of local national and international news for the past 15 years. Northwest News provides current news in an engaging, easy-to read format, information about local events and holidays, stories about other local ABE/ESL students, and activities to increase reading, writing, and speaking skills.

Key Features

New readers of English have accessible, educational, and entertaining current news as reading material.
Articles are written at four basic levels of difficulty.
News provides high interest content of relevance to adults at basic reading levels
Professional photographs aid reading comprehension and offer literacy students the opportunity to develop meaningful vocabulary.
Students can write for publication in Northwest News by submitting photographs and articles for reader stories or written opinions for the editorial section.
An activity sheet and additional teacher copy of the newspaper come with a class set of 20.
